רֹאשׁ הַשָּׁנָה Rosh Hashanah
In October 2020, i met the singer and Cantor Abby Gilad, and came the vision of creating a Concert with blend of traditional and popular songs for the incoming Rosh Hashanah. We were in the first Corona wave, and it was hard to imagine that within 10 monhts much could have changed, therefore we could only imagine a wind quartet supporting her voice, and appropriate arrangements were needed. Thanks to the kindness of Michael Skloff, Composer, Arrangeur, and music Director at the Temple Israel in Hollywood I had the reference foundations on which I could then adapt and build for this program (translated in German).
Baschana Haba’a | Im nächsten Jahr | Music: Nurit Hirsh, Text: Ehud Manor |
Zochreinu le Chaim | Erinner dich an das Leben | traditional |
Psalm 150 | Hallelujah | Leonard Cohen |
Mimkomcha | Von deinem Platz | Schlomo Carlebach |
Avinu Malkeinu | Unser Vater, unser König | Music: Max Janowsky, |
Areshet S'fateinu | Mögen die Äußerungen unserer Lippen | traditional |
Sim Schalom | Gib Frieden | Max Janowsky |
Mi shebeirach | Möge die Quelle der Kraft | Debbie Friedman |
Oseh Schalom | Der du Frieden Schaffst | traditional Yoel Sykes |
Le Schana Tova | Mögest du in das Buch des Lebens | traditional |
With just few rehearsals we were then ready for the performance, that went pretty well.
